just joined!!! please help me figure out my chair dilema…
are these banquet chairs really bad? (the first image) or should we splurge for better chairs? The chiavari chairs are in the room that our reception will be in (these are pics the hotel sent me). if it helps, our colors are seafoam green, light aqua, and champagne.
i cannot decide what to do! at first I thought the chiavari chairs were included because they were in all the pictures the hotel sent me, but i just found out the ugly green ones are actually the chairs in the room!
are they that bad?

I don’t think they are bad at all, in the pictures. Before making a decision, I would go visit the chairs to make sure they don’t have any noticeable stains. As long as they are in good shape, I wouldn’t waste money on renting the Chiavari chairs. We were lucky that our Chiavari chairs were included in our price.

I don’t think they’re bad at all. While I love chiavari chairs (when I say love, I mean LOVE) I probably wouldn’t spend the extra money to upgrade unless the venue was willing to do it for cheap. We were quoted $8 per chair to rent them and that is just not in the budget. How much would your venue charge for the upgrade?

@allyk522: Typical of the hotel to send out photos with the ‘nicer’ chairs. However, my friend had a similar dilemma and the wedding co-ordinator at her venue told her it wasn’t worth paying extra because once people are sat down and their jaCkets are on the back of the chairs you wont notice and to be honest you don’t.

I don’t think the banquet chairs are bad at all, they blend in well and are definitely not offensive (the chairs that come with our site border on offensive, they are so ugly!) I like the look of chiavari chairs, but usually the cost is significantly higher. I never, EVER would have noticed them before I started planning my wedding! People will be in those chairs a lot of the night and it’s unlikely anyone would notice their absence. If the price is much different, I’d go with banquet chairs.

Thanks for the comments, that helps! Well we were quoted at 7.50 a chair, and we would only need 35 chairs because we are having a small destination wedding, plus set up and delivery, in total it would be around $400 (which isnt too bad, but $400 on chairs that i dont even technically *need*when i could spend that on flowers or another hour of open bar seems kind of a waste) but in the big scheme of things its not too bad….im glad everyone doesnt think the banquet chairs are too horrible tho! i was afraid that darker green would clash with my colors, but maybe it is neutral enough to blend in

I looooove chiavari chairs (and am coughing up a boat load to have them at my wedding) but think that the banquet ones will look just fine. Like PPs have said, no one will even notice once they are sitting down/covered with jackets, etc. Now if only someone could knock that same rationalization into my head. 🙂

I would do the chiavari chairs for sure. That is something I don’t mind splurging on 🙂

I like the banquet chairs honestly. Also, people really don’t notice the chairs unless it’s a production/wedding planner planned wedding. We had banquet chairs and everybody who attended said that the wedding was blast. Chiavaris are nice chairs, but sometimes uncomfortable too. Stick with the banquet chairs and give your guests another hour at the bar.

If you can afford it, then go chiavari – I don’t think the green ones are bad or make the chiavari’s chairs necessary.
I hated my venue’s chairs and ended up keeping them and it really didn’t matter. We look at pictures of the room with no one in it – and with people in those chairs, it won’t really matter. I don’t look at any of my wedding pictures and get sad about not having chiavari’s.
Your banquet chairs aren’t offensive in the least and seem to work with the room. What color table linens are you doing?

yea, i dont think people will dwell on what kind of chairs we have either…we are having ivory table linens with a crushed taffetta champagne overlay to add some sparkle….seafoam napkins and amber/gold uplighting….i was just so bummed when i found out that my room wont have these chairs (i swear the hotel sent me so many pictures of the room with the chiavari chairs on purpose) so when i found out those werent the chairs i was very bummed. it would have been better to have never seen them in the first place! lol

Obviously the chiavari chairs are beautiful – but if you can’t afford it then don’t stress. The banquet chairs look really nice and also comfortable.

I voted Chiavari. While I do agree that they aren’t necessary and quite expensive, I do think they add to the atmosphere. Is there anyway you could look into an outside rental company to see if you can get them for cheaper? Or perhaps, depending on how important it is to you, spend less on favors and splurge on the chairs? I’m sure whatever you decide will be lovely.

I love a beautiful chiavari chair but my breaking point is $5 per chair(including taxes, delivery and set up). The banquet chair they have are way better than the ones at my venue and at 7.50 per chair I would stick to the free chairs. I am having chiavari chairs but found them at $4 per chair and like I said the ones at my venue are aweful.

Our venues are ugly green as well. We are opting for chair covers vs the chiavari chairs. I can’t see spending $8+ per chair, when I can spend around $1.50 for a chair cover…
