OK, so I spent all day looking through info packets from banquet halls and golf courses in the suburbs and most were really not my style (lots of chandeliers and mirrored walls and columns). I’m thinking more and more about something small and simple in a restaurant but am not sure if that means there will none none of the traditional ceremony/receptions things- like a dance floor… I’ve asked the Fiance if that matters to him and he’s not sure, but still loves the idea of the restaurant reception…
Anybody done a restaurant ceremony/reception? What was it like?
Any Chicago area restaurants that you think might fit the bill?

I had the same problem! We couldn’t find any place that wasn’t completely cookie cutter and obnoxiously overpriced. We ended up deciding on the Brookfield Zoo! If you have the reception in the Discovery Center or in their restuarant Bocaditos, I believe the prices are around 80 per person. We are having our ceremony in front of the Roosevelt Fountain, the cocktail hour in the Great Bear Wilderness Exhibit, and the reception in the wedding pavilions.
Other places that I really liked was the Wilder Mansion, and the Morton Arboretum :

A beautiful place that will hold that many people and has its own kitchen and a couple bathrooms is the Swedish American Museum in Adndersonville. And BOY is it cheap. You’d need a local caterer, but it’d keep your budget down for sure.
Here’s the info:

I had a friend get married at the Irish American Heritage Center and am sure it was pretty cheap. It was an old school and the gym was converted to the “ballroom”. It was really nice.
