Nabrani0915 :  Yes definitely practice your parallel parking! You won’t be able to get around in Chicago without it!

There was only one time I remember when I noticed some damage to my car from parking on the street. It was back when I lived in Andersonville and I came out one morning to find a small dent on the side of my car. It wasn’t from another car hitting it so I have no idea what happened. But it was small and barely noticeable. My car was never broken into or anything, but my car is also not very nice looking, so there’s that. And I was always very careful not to leave anything in plain view on the seat or whatever.

Nabrani0915 :  I’m not going to say it doesn’t happen. I used to play dodgeball in Wicker Park (one of the neighborhoods I mentioned earlier in which I don’t feel safe). I saw several cars broken into down there. It’s a big city and there is definitely crime. You just have to try and be as smart as possible.

Lincoln Park and DT are great- but you don’t have to live there to enjoy them πŸ™‚ I work dowtown and have moved to the burbs but still feel like I get to have fun in my favorite neighborhoods.

If you’re considering the suburbs, I like Evanston a lot. It’s got a city feel (although, yes, lots of college students), and amenities and is only about 30 minutes by train to downtown plus they have access to both the Metra and CTA lines. You’d be more likely to find something with parking included out there.

ohra :  I was just thinking the same thing. Half my family and friends live downtown and a lot of them are looking to leave. I go visit and have fun but I do love my suburban life

Nabrani0915 :  Are you against the suburbs? Like PP said, Evanston could be a good fit. I live in the west suburbs and LOVE it. I am a 20 minute metra ride away from the city, some places like Oak Park have the green line too. La Grange, Elmhurst, Oak Park, could all be good options for you! And your money goes way father. There is a ton to do in West burbs also. Like PP said, you can easily get to the city from there and have fun and its a quick uber or train ride back home

Another thing you should consider with street parking downtown is that when it snows you will have to shovel and dig yourself out. And people then might steal your hard work and park in your spot. Parking wars exist. LOL

My sister lives in Lincoln Park in a very expensive condo and not only is LP a pain in the ass to get to from the expressway ( so if one of you works in the burbs, you will have a hell of a commute) but the last time I went to go see her there was a guy shooting heroin right next to her garage. So even tho the pricey areas are safer, you need to stay aware of your surroundings.

If you are deadset on the city, Little Italy might be worth looking into!
