Hi there brides! Just wanted to share a couple of things from our wedding that really saved us a ton. In total we’re spending under 10k for a wedding for 130 people (everything included!).
The biggest saver was the venue, the Floating World Gallery, which is this beautiful gallery space downtown, in Lincoln Park that can host up to 130 guests for a sit down dinner. I think it’s their first season doing weddings, so since they are not well known yet, the rental price is low for the location and space. It’s 3500 USD to rent the space AND you can choose your own caterer/ event company, bring your own liquor, choose your own vendors, etc. – that really brings down the costs. I found that for most venues in Chicago the vendors are imposed so this is a really great option for those DIY brides wanting to be more creative, and also save. Another secret tip is if you want to rent uplighting or drapes for your wedding, do it yourself without paying a fortune! We found a company that rents uplighting for theaters and it’s literally 1/5 the price we got from inquiries with event companies. They are called: Grand Stage Company – http://www.grandstage.com/
If you have the time, put up your own drapes (it’s super easy!). We got ours from a place called Drape Kings, for again, a fraction of the price from other quotes we received.
All of the centerpieces, decor, etc. were bought on Craigslist from former brides selling things from their weddings. I got awesome sets of hurricane vases, paper lanterns, small decor things, etc. and it’s great because you can stay green and eco-friendly 🙂
Flowers and bouquets were also DIY and purchased from Costco and Phillips Flowers in Chicago. If you have someone who has a talent for floral arrangements, or want to do simple arrangements (we did submerged flowers) it’s the best option.
Tables, chairs, linen are all rented from Tablescapes, where you can go and choose and personalize the decor you want for your wedding. They drop it off, you set it up, and they take it away the next day.
With a great caterer, and if you bring your own liquor you can really organize a great wedding on a budget!!!
