My wedding is in April 2013, and I’m feeling the pressure to find a dress. I just finished grad school, moved, and started a new job, so dress shopping has been on the backburner until now!
I’m looking for a “modern-vintage” style (forgive the oxymoron) for under $2,000. I like lace, but not a lot of bling. I’m also busty and hippy, so I’d like to find something that complements (but doesn’t necessarily accentuate) those features. Do you all know of any designers or dress shops in Chicago that I should check out? All help is appreciated. The clock is ticking… 7 months and counting…

I would call around. One I had wanted to go to didn’t sell dresses under $2500, and I am sure there are other boutiques in the area that might do the same. I did make an appointment at Belle Vie and Mira Couture, they seemed to be really nice shops. I didn’t need my appointsments, though, I bought my dress in Ft Wayne before making it to Chitown.

Reddington Bridal is awesome! I’m a street size 16 and they had lots of really nice options in my price range. Which was about $1500 at the time. They are a small shop and give personalized attention to each bride.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Volle’s Bridal in Lake Zurich (NW suburb). Kacie was soooo sweet and really worked with my budget. They treat you like you’re the only bride in the whole world, regardless of what your budget is. I would avoid A L’Amour in Barrington – they were very snotty and when I told them my budget, they basically just went through the motions and couldn’t care less about me.

Martellen’s in Lemont. Their selection was beautiful–they had GREAT dresses. They carry Maggie Sottero, Casablanca (my dress) and Essence of Australia. The ladies at the shop are really sweet and didn’t pressure me at all and didn’t show me anything outside of my budget. I paid $1300 for my dress including a custom cut. Plus, I ordered it in mid-August and they expect it to arrive mid-late January, so you should be able to get your dress in on time.

Nordstrom and Bloomingdales now have bridal studios and their prices are fair.
I would also try Nicole Miller and J Crew

Jasmine Bridal is located out in Lombard, IL. My best friend got her dress there for around $1500.

Thanks everyone for your comments! I ended up finding my dress in Florida (where I’m from and the wedding location), which makes traveling to fittings a hassle, but at least I don’t have to worry about schlepping the dress on a plane with me from Chicago!
