Hi Bees, I’ve been cruising the site for about a year now and the time has come that I finally decided to actually join in the fun! I have a question about honeymoons. My fiance and I have the opportunity of going South every year with his family and have opted out of the tropical honeymoon. Another reason for this is because we are getting married at the end of July and don’t want to risk hurrican season. Now, I have heard awesome things about Chicago and live fairly close (45 min plane ride). Anyone familar or been before? Hints? Tips? Tricks? Help a newbee out!

I too am considering Chicago. It’s just a 4 hour drive from us and when I was there once briefly I LOVED it. It seems to be a romantic and fun city. I remember wishing then that I was with someone who really loved me. Now I can be! I hope you get lots of responses to how good Chicago is for a honeymoon.

All I can say is Chicago is the BEST city in the summer! So full of life and just beautiful. I don’t have a lot of suggestions because I’m not a foodie and my favorite thing to do is just go to hole in the wall bars. There are of course tons of touristy attractions to go to though that I’m sure you can find on any website.

I’m biased because I grew up there, but I’m also taking a short honeymoon in Chi-town! Ideas for what to do: go to the beaches (Oak Street is a good one), take a sail out on the lake, go to yummy restaurants that are cheaper than NYC/LA, check out museums if that’s your thing, go hear some live music at night, do cocktails in the Signature Room up on the Hancock building, where you get gorgeous views of the lake and the skyline… I could go on and on! The end of July might be hot and humid, but your hotel room will be cool and refreshing — and let’s be honest, the bedroom is a pretty important part of a honeymoon!! 🙂 Recommend staying at a nice hotel near Michigan Ave — Trump hotel is gorgeous and right in the heart of everything.
