I’m a long-time lurker, first time poster, getting ready for a wedding in August 2014!
Can you let me know if you’ve had a great experience with any of the following services that you would recommend for a late summer wedding in downtown Chicago? Cost spent would be helpful, too.
- Hair & Makeup
Thanks for your help in advance!

My daughter is getting married downtown Chicago in Oct. Ceremony at Holy Name Cathedral, reception at room 1520. The people there have been fantastic. You can look it up on the web. Its not right downtown, but they are having transpotation for everyone. The biggest thing we learned, is that these things book up a year before, so you should start seriously looking. Her photographer is janelle kappes, also online, the engagement pics were fantastic. I will post again later with music, catering etc. Enjoy your planning, good luck!

Even though we’re having a wedding in Madison, we hired a few vendors based in Chicago.
We’ve hired Christy Tyler as a photographer. She’s been amazing so far – we absolutely loved our engagement photos! She’s very responsive via email, sweet and lovely in person. She shoots with her husband James. http://www.christytylerphotography.com/ Her basic package starts at 3300 (though prices may have changed since we hired her last summer) which includes Christy + James for 6 hours of shooting, dvd of editted image + print release, online gallery, and engagement session.
We’ve also hired http://www.stylemattersdjs.com/site_v2/ for a DJ. We’ve only had contact with the owner so far and will be matched with a DJ soon. We love their philosophy and level of professionalism and felt they understood our music tastes best.

- Wedding: August 2013 - Brookfield Zoo
I haven’t had my wedding yet, but I can tell you who I will be using/have researched!
DJ – Toast & Jam DJs – http://www.toastandjamdjs.com/ – almost all female team, don’t play the “typical/cheesy/worn out” songs, have *very* good reviews
Photographer – My official photog moved to Seattle so if you hired her you’d need to pay travel fees probably but I can recommend…
Photo Tsumi – http://phototsumi.com/ – *disclaimer* this is my friend 😉 photojournalistic style, has done more model/nature shoots but there are examples of weddings in his website gallery (look at “A Little Bit of Love”), he does a lot of cool things with color and has done a lot of interesting events too
Jimmy Tan Photography – http://www.jimmytanphotography.com/ – really really sweet guy, beautiful photos, very artistic too
Videographer – Blu Couture Films – http://www.blucouture.com/ – really super fun and sweet husband and wife team, they do cinematic videography if that’s what you’re looking for (altho you will also get a “documentary “edit as well), I’ll admit they’re little expensive tho
I’d also rec going to the Chicago Local boards here, there are a few threads where bees go to list out what vendors they used! http://boards.weddingbee.com/board/chicago#axzz2Rluf5TTA

@Triathlete: Thank you so much, everyone! This was exactly what I was hoping for. Please add more suggestions for Chicago vendors if you can!
