Just got engaged and starting the daunting process of finding a place that won’t break the bank. Despite a decent budget, this is still so difficult. Has anybody had luck negotiating with any of the higher end hotels?
I know one person that eliminated things like champagne toast, 1 appetizer, etc. However, has anybody gotten extra things and have their price lowered? I’m def going to give it a shot, I have nothing to loose but wanted to hear some tricks of the trade!

I asked to have the minimum number of people to be lowered which will save me a couple thousand dollars. I would be surprised if very many venues would be willing to do more than is included in their usual rate, for less than their usual rate. Its worth a shot, but if you low ball them too much they might not want to work with you.

My husband is a great negotiator and he says to keep your poker face on and try to bundle things, but be very nice. Don’t let them know if you absolutely love it. We negotiated with our venue and we also looked at other places in the area so that we could compare apples to apples. If a similar venue charges $1,000 less for the same package, that will work in your favor. We also negotiated everything, including all menus and prices before we gave them a dime. You can also try to swap things out for something you like better. Our initial menu included a dessert with dinner, but we were having a cake. So we swapped out the dessert for a pasta bar, which eliminated a cost for us down the road.

Some friends of ours just had a lovely wedding on a budget here. They had it at Greenhouse Loft on a Sunday afternoon and had a ton of passed appetizers and mini burgers. There was an open bar as well

I’m also in the process of this. The one place we fell in love with was unbudging. However another place we told them of another bride we knew and they dropped the minumum for us… If you have anyluck I’d love to hear about it!! Also I have found that some places have booking incentives so ask before you go. We are waiting to see a few last due to these. Chandlers in Schaumburg’s prices are reasonable so I’m going to bring them with to my next few places to see if any will match prices.
