One of my BMs got her dress in the mail and everything fits fine but the arms are too tight. She says that because it’s chiffon, it can’t be let out because the fabric would rip. I don’t think this is true, but would anyone know off-hand?

@BetterSherm: Well, no, the fabric wouldn’t actually rip when altered (unless the seamstress was super unprofessionally sloppy about it!) but if your friend has tried it on and forced her arms into the too-tight sleeves, there might be little holes around the present stitching where the threads of the fabric pulled away from the seam. IF there is enough fabric in the sleeves to let them out, she could take it to a seamstress who could be able to alter the sleeves to fit (only if there’s enough fabric there) and fix those little stretching-fabric holes at the present seam with no trouble (just rubbing the fabric is usually enough to fix that).

@Creiddylad: Thanks! We’re not in the same state, so I can’t see the issue up-close. Her arms fit, but she can’t left her arms up (for dancing, her fear is). I told her to order bigger, but she order exactly to her size, so I don’t know if there will be any extra fabric. She has an appointment with a seamstress on Thursday (after much begging on my part, sadly), so we’ll see.
