    Personally, I don’t think that the weight of the fabric makes a dress instantly “inappropriate” for winter. Many gowns have chiffon overlays that look quite lovely, but the fabric beneath them have more weight (and potentially more warmth). My girls are wearing long chiffon dresses for my October wedding in a dark sangria color. I think it looks lovely and wouldn’t be mistaken for a “summer” look at all.

    I think chiffon could work. We wore a dark plum colored chiffon dress for my friend’s October wedding & they didn’t look summery.

    The bridesmaids can get shapewear if they are concerned about the fabric showing too much.
