Not sure how common it is to do children’s vows during a ceremony but I went along with it after my minister mentioned it to me. I loved the idea of having my children more involved in our ceremony since after all, the marriage was not only uniting husband and wife but the whole family. I have 2 children from my first marriage and my Darling Husband has really stepped up to the plate and has helped me raise them for the past two years.
So anyway, I kept the vows a secret from everyone except my husband. At the rehearsal, the minister pulled the kids aside and explained to them what exactly they had to say and do when it was time for the vows.
During the wedding ceremony, after my Darling Husband and I exchanged our vows, the minister asked my children to stand up there with us. These are the vows we went with:
(Husband), do you promise to be a good role model, patient and loving with (child) and (child)? Do you promise to be a caring, nurturing, and supportive parent and always encourage them? Will you always be their strength and provide unconditional emotional support when they need it and always love them like your own? (I do)
(Child) and (child) do you promise to love, honor and respect your mother’s new husband? Do you promise to be supportive and encourage (husband) and your Mom’s new life together? (We do)
Anyway I just wanted to share this with any bees who might be interested in doing something similar. This was a very touching part of our ceremony, people are still talking about it! I’m so glad we decided to do this!!
