Go to a dermatologist. That sounds like hormonal acne, which I suffer from as well. I spent years breaking out on my chin around my period with big, cystic blemishes under the skin that were painful and left scars. I was put on an androgen blocker called spironolactone, which controls excess hormones, and it drasticly changed my face and self-esteem. Nothing topical or over the counter worked for me and I tried everything!

jakrusbe:  I think skin care varies from person to person, a lot!  I have pretty clear skin, with the occasional breakout (usually singular)right before my period.  My skin tends to be on the dry side, so things like proactiv are awful for me.  I use Neutrogena Naturals.  It makes my skin feel soft and smooth and it shrinks the breakout in a day (also, leave them alone!  Every time you touch it you’ll extend its life on your face!)   It also doesn’t foam, which I think is supposed to be good for dry skin.

Beyond that, I drink lots of water and get healthy oils in my diet.  I don’t wear make up every day either.  And I really think that helps.

When I was on hormonal birth control I didn’t get any breakouts, even at my period.

What works for me is eating healthy, drinking lots of water, not touching my face (and washing my hands frequently), using good quality face products and makeup, and using a purifying/ detoxifying mud mask every other week on my chin.

As far as food goes.. To me eating healthy is mostly a vegetarian diet. I try to eat as little dairy as possible, as little bread/ wheat as possible, and as little red meat as possible. Which is so hard but it shows up on my face if I eat too much of any of the above.

I also can’t use the Clairsonic every day, it irritates my skin. I use it maybe once a week in the summer and less frequently in the winter because my skin is so dry it doesn’t seem to do any good.

jakrusbe:  Dr. James Bond in Grapevine, TX. Yes that’s really his name lol. He had me try a few different things until we found the right drug and right dosage! Even now that we’ve figured out what works he has me come in every 6 months to make sure all is well, which I appreciate.

My chin used to be my main place for acne, and I still get them in a couple key spots – all hormonal though.

I still use Neutrogena Acnes Stress Spot Treatement, but they don’t make it anymore – such a bummer. But, I found this line called Evologie that was included in one of my Birchbox’s… it is a godsend!! I use the cream as a spot treatment, and if I feel something starting, I’ll dab that on the spot for a cuple days and it has diminished. I also just ordered the serum, as Darling Husband was looking for something when he gets the occasional blemish.

Other than that, check out a dermatologist like a PP said.

Let me tell you the surefire way to control hormonal acne

MACA root pills (TRUST ME, it works)

Start with a SUPERFICIAL chemical peel or regular facials (once a month if you can swing it) will do.

Dont touch your face

Stay away from dairy unless it’s organic.

Go to a dermatologist. I continued to get “bumps” along my jaw line. no whitehead but if you squeeze enough…something would come out.

I went to a dermatologist and he said I have roseacea. I’ve been using a medicated cleanser and gel for the past 6 or 7years. My skin is acne free! If I get lazy about using the medicated gel, the bumps come back.

There are more than 1 type of roseacea, not just the kind where you always have a red face.
