we have Flowering Meadow by Gorham (which has been disconinuted…thankfully our set is complete!) and we are looking to acquire a few peices from Vintage Jewel by Noritake for other special occasions

Like jhphi said, if you haven’t gone to a department store to look at china, please do.  A lot of what I liked online I hated in store.  You also get to play with settings and switch plates, crystal, flatware, and linen in and out to see how different things look.

Wow, everyone went Vera! I’m thinking of going Monique Lhullier (through Royal Doulton). 😉 But now I might change my mind again!!!

I loved that setting from Monique Lhullier!  My husband thought the raised dots were too modern for his taste though.  It’s a beautiful selection.

Federal Platinum was our second choice, but we ended up going with Oberon by Wedgwood. http://www.wedgwoodusa.com/shop/collection.asp?id=476 (A few days later we saw that it was featured in Vogue as mentioned on that page so I’m hoping that means it remains popular and we can buy replacements for many years to come!)

I agree seeing it in the store is totally different. And I think you should be open to everything – at first I thought Oberon was too busy and would lock us into colors, but then I decided that I really loved how pretty it was and that it had enough different colors to work with. And I have LOVED it every time we have received a place setting – we have been lucky enough to finish our china already!

I think too there is some consideration like above about what other china you may inherit or what your everyday plates look like. Also Oberon is supposed to be dishwasher safe and that is HUGE in my book.

I really liked the Monique L. in photos, but not so much in person.  There’s one setting, maybe called Femme Fatale or something, that looks like a MUCH prettier color in magazines.
