Being a transplant in the Philly area, I am unfamiliar with the Chinese restaurants in the area.
I’m looking for a place in Philly to have a traditional Chinese wedding banquet. We’re having a full blown American wedding reception already but my parents want us to consider a Chinese banquet as well.
Has anyone attended one or had one locally? If so, where and please share your reviews re: price, ambiance, food, etc.

How many people are you looking to fit into the restaurant?
Joy Tsin Lau on Race Street in Chinatown has a large room (it’s next to their actual restaurant), but a friend’s sister had her banquet there and said it wasn’t very nice. But, you’ll be hard pressed to find a really nice restaurant in Chinatown…but they will be authentic with delicious food.
You could call Square on Square on Chestnut and Wok on Walnut Street. Those are nicer chinese restaurants in CC.

I’m sorry I can’t help you. I don’t know many Chinese restaurants there either.

Probably won’t help the original poster but we looked at Chinese banquet locations in Philly as well. It was pretty early in our search and we ultimately didn’t go that route because the location changed but maybe this info can help another non-local bride.
3 main places you could have it:
Joy Tsin Lau:
Has their own party room with double happiness characters and a private bar. Not bad (think it came with any of the wedding packages) but it’s underground and I’d definitely encourage stopping by on your visit to make sure it’s your style. Standard Chinese banquet menu but from what I remember, decent food.
Wedding party would be in their main dinning room (but for a min you’d be able to buy it out). Okay menu, wasn’t a huge fan of their options. We have a lot of vegetarians on our guest list and their choices would have been limited.
Rents out their upstairs for wedding banquets. It’s a wood and mirrored room (so not traditionally red/gold) but you can definitely dress it up. This is where we would have probably had if we had gone this route. Not only was the upstairs nice but the manager here was really accomodating about working with all food preferences and budgets. Really easy to work with and flexible.
