I have always wondered if wearing my ring in chlorine is bad? I have a platinum band with a half pave band (and a solitaire). Does chlorine affect the band? diamonds? Does it affect different materials (gold/white gold)?? Are there any other substances that are known to affect rings?
Thanks!

If you ring is platinum you shouldn’t have any problems. I wear me ring in the pool all the time and never take it off when I go on vacation either and have never had a problem or seen any type of discoloration.

According to this article:
Chlorine is bad for white gold. It reacts with the nickel and can cause it to “corrode”.
Chlorine is not so bad for yellow gold.
Jewelry will withstand minimal exposure, such as a swimming pool, but not chlorine bleach or TONS of time in a pool or hot tub.

when i have doubts about whether or not i should be wearing my ring while doing xyz, i always think of my mom’s ring (solitaire set in platinum with baguettes), which i have never seen off her finger in my whole life, but still looks perfect. 35 years of going to the beach, cleaning the house, swimming in pools, etc. don’t seem to have taken much of a toll on it. that said, i take mine off for certain things because i’m still a little paranoid about it, but i’m sure that will wear off over the years.
