We met with our baker who was AMAZING. We decided on three tiers, including chocolate cake with raspberry filling and a lemon cake with raspberry filling. There will also be a homemade dessert bar, so I am not concerned about people not loving the cake/same filling. They can deal with it. The cake is my baby.
I am looking for opinions on if we should do two tiers chocolate/one tier lemon or two tiers lemon/one tier chocolate. Which do you think is more crowd-pleasing?
Also, which do you think will be prettier to cut into? The icing will be white.
Thanks!

I think chocolate always seems more crowd pleasing. I’m having a variety of flavors of cake and the chocolate gets the best response anytime I mention it while the fruit flavor seems to get mixed reviews (for the record I think both your choices sound great! I would love them both!).
However, I think the lemon would be prettier to cut into. 🙂

Chocolate will definitely be favored by your guests. Not to sound mean, but you honestly won’t give a crap about how “pretty” it is to cut into for pictures and what not. At that point, most people just want to cut the cake, get a little piece, and move on.

I would prefer to eat the chocolate with raspberry because I always pick chocolate. 🙂 But I agree that the lemon is probably more photogenic to cut into. 🙂

I think the lemon will look nice, but I think chocolate is a universally appealing flavor. My one demand on my cake was chocolate with raspberry filling (OMG, yummy!) At most weddings I go to, chocolate seems to be the prefered flavor of cake. Its familiar to everyone.

I might be the only person who loves lemon cake and detests chocolate cake. I’m always thrilled when I see any option but chocolate at a wedding! It sounds like you have enough options to make everyone happy.
Cut into whichever flavor you like best, duh!

@Fanciful: Lemon is hit or miss with some people although I love it. I get bored with always having chocolate cake, lemon is a nice change.
For pictures I would suggest cutting into the lemon as it might be easier to wipe off any spills that manage to make their way onto your dress.

Our largest tier is chocolate with raspberry and fudge, and it is divine. So I am biased, and would go with chocolate/raspberry! As for which to cut, I would have never given that a thought.

I dislike lemon cake, cookies, pie, etc. so it’s a no-brainer for me and I think chocolate is perhaps more universally appealing.

@Treejewel19: That’s exactly my reasoning! I’d suggest cutting into the lemon, don’t want to accidently smear chocolate on your dress!

I would love to eat the lemon raspberry, because I don’t get to eat it as often and it’s super tasty (: I also think it would be prettier to cut into, because of the contrast between the filling and the cake.
