    I think either will work, but I prefer the first and think it’ll be the most universally flattering.

    I recently saw an episode of My Fair Wedding with David Tutera where the bride had a 50s, Mad Men-themed wedding. They chose dresses similar to the one below, which I thought was appropriate:

    for 50’s, you might look for something more flared at the waist and either off the shoulder or halter.
