I saw this Mehndi Design on the site shown above.
Mr. Dawnabbey and I are Christian, and as you can tell from my picture I am Indian. Most of the time Mehndi celebrations are Hindu or Muslim so at first I balked at the idea when my Mom suggested it. In the end I was doing some research and found that an unnamed bride of King Solomon had a Mehndi (henna) (Song of Solomon 1:14 and 4:13,14) treatment. Further research showed that this was very popular among Jewish and Christian brides until the 1500’s when it was outlawed by the Catholic Church and enforced by Inquisitors. I did a lot of reading and apparently this was a common practice throughout Egypt, Canaan and the ancient world even among Christians throughout the Roman Empire. I thought it was strictly an Indian/Pakistani (and expats/descendants) thing.
I am really happy that my faith and my culture don’t need to conflict and really REALLY happy that we can have this celebration with our families!
