Is there anyone else out there who, due to alternating Christmas with their inlaws, isn’t celebrating Christmas with their family until this weekend (or any weekend in January)?
This year, we went to my inlaws for Christmas and, although it was a great time, I really REALLY missed celebrating with my family (I may have cried on Christmas Eve…). We are Christmas nuts, so the lower key Christmas with my inlaws was definitely different for me.
My mom really wants to have “Second Christmas”- basically, we’re going to my parents place on Friday, which will be “Christmas Eve” and are exchanging presents on Saturday. They still have their tree up and are doing the huge meal on Saturday as well. My mom, dad, sister and brother-in-law celebrated as normal on the 25th, but are completely willing to do it all over again in order to celebrate with us….which is awesome, but I’m really struggling to stay in the Christmas spirit. It doesn’t help that my birthday is on Friday and we got married a month ago. LOL I feel “celebrated” out.
I’m sitting here right now wrapping presents, listening to Christmas music and we still have our tree up. Any other ideas? If you celebrate Orthodox Christmas, I’d love to hear how you stay in the spirit well after the 25th of December has passed.
