- Wedding: December 2016
I have to say, I am still just shocked that my Fiance managed to make this a surprise…we’ve talked about marriage, I picked out some rings, and we had even set a tenative date for a small wedding.
Fiance apparently had this in the works for about a month and I knew nothing about it!
So, we gathered in the living room with my 9 year old daughter to open gifts and there were three large boxes for me, all from Fiance. The thought fleetingly crossed my mind, but all three boxes were fairly heavy so I figured that none of them were a ring. We all took turns opening our gifts, and it turned out that Fiance added books, a can of spare change, and a couple of screwdrivers to make my boxes heavier and more shakeable. We all got a good laugh out of the extra items, and I got a really gorgeous sweater (I love cozy sweaters!), a light jacket with thumb holes (for hiking!), and a really nice fleece coat (I hate heavy winter coats!).
Once all the gifts were open, I started cleaning up the ripped up wrapping paper and Fiance was helping my daughter open one of her gifts. I took a bag of the wrappings into the kitchen and came back with a broom to sweep up the other bits and a couple of minutes into sweeping I noticed a gold box with maroon ribbon all alone under the tree. I stopped and looked at it, and then looked at Fiance but he was talking to my daughter about her gift so I leaned over and picked it up. I noticed the ribbon had the name of a local jewelry on it and I think I went into shock at that point. My hands were shaking and I opened the box to find a maroon ring box inside. I flipped the lid open and started crying when I saw the ring-it was so beautiful and sparkly!
All of a sudden, I realized Fiance was kneeling next to me when he took my hand. He had tears in his eyes and he just simply said “Will you marry me?” I grabbed him and said “Yes, of course! I love you so much!” and he grabbed me up in a hug and we just stood there in the light from the Christmas tree holding each other. My daughter didn’t realize what was happening and she thought I was upset when I started crying, but she had a big smile on her face after I said yes!
Without further ado, here is the gorgeous ring he picked out (the center stone he already had, and had it reset into this band)…He couldn’t have done a better job with the whole thing. It was so very ‘us’!
