Seeing as my views on Christmas are clearly minority ones on the bee, I will restrain myself. Suffice to say that, IMO, any time before the 1st of December is far too early, and when I rule the world then anyone who so much as mentions it before December will be put in the stocks whilst dressed as a festive elf and pelted with rotting fruit.
Mine goes up some time in mid-December. The extended family observe the 12 days of Christmas… it goes up on the 24th of December and comes down on the day before Epiphany. I should really do this as well, but I’m never around for long enough to do the decorations on the correct days, so I get lazy.

After thanksgiving is fine, before thanksgiving is too early.

I dont think its ever too early. If you want to put up a tree, then put up a tree! Its not hurting anyone.
I personally love Christmas, and kind of hate Thanksgiving, so I’m all for putting up trees before Thanksgiving. Heck, I want to have a Halloween tree! I think I’ll do that next year. Put it up in October and cover it with skulls and bats and monsters. =)

Also, the US and Canada are the only places that have Thanksgiving (and Canada does theirs before the US.) So getting fussy because of trees before your Thanksgiving is kind of silly to me.
And before anyone jumps on me, I’m not saying everyone has to be okay with trees up before Thanksgiving, I’m just saying that its silly to get mad at people for celebrating how they want to celebrate. I really just dont understand why someone would get angry because their neighbors put out their tree before you think is acceptable.

I don’t like the idea of putting a tree up before Thanksgiving. I think it would be really weird to eat a Thanksgiving meal with a Christmas tree in the background!
