My fiance’s mom (or my future Mother-In-Law. Wow weird to say that) is very crafty–knitting, crocheting (sorry if the spelling is butchered), etc. In reading about choosing a chuppah, I was reading about the importance of making it personal. So, I figured how much more personal than having it made for us?
She said she’d be happy to make it, though wants to know what we’d like. (Logical request I guess 🙂 ). The thing is, I have no idea. I tried turning to the internet for design ideas (namely Google images), and got overwhelmed. So I’m turning here 🙂
Did anyone have a custom made/specially made chuppah? Or does anyone know good places to get design ideas? Thanks!!!

do you want a free-standing one, or are you going to have people hold up the chuppah? if you are having people hold it up i always love the look of birch poles with something meaningful as the fabric….i’ve seen people use a family member’s tallis, lace from someone’s wedding dress, etc. you can do something similar with free standing ones, but you’ll need to anchor the poles somehow to stand on their own. there’s a lot of good inspiration in this post:

ooh a crocheted cover would be beautiful above a chuppah! i’ve seen a lot of that use old tablecloths made by a family member, which is so meaningful.

My aunt hand stitched our chuppah cover – she actually used a table cloth pattern that was just flowers and it came out beautifully (pictures on the blog in mid-Dec!)
