My Catholic church (a cathedral, no less) only charged me $200 for church use, with a suggestion of $100 for the organist (which I will give him closer to the date when the music is all laid out). There are a few rules (can’t leave the flowers up after the ceremony, can’t have non-religious music) and all that jazz, but yeah, that’s all. My church is in Upstate NY, near Syracuse.

However, I am a member at this parish. Churches where you are not a member WILL charge more, because they know that you only want them “because you are pretty waaah” – and they will take advantage of that, especially if it’s a cathedral and needs upkeep routinely.

This is really interesting. I’m not American not a Catholic but I am a Christian and I never knew that people have to pay or “donate” to get married in a church. Here it is free as long as you are a member of the religion.

We are in Toronto, Canada, and we had to pay $150, which was the suggested donation. Our priest is a family friend so he also came to the reception. We paid $100 for our organist and singer. We are both members of the parish.

Our vhurch is in Brisbane and it costs $1590 which includes the church hire, decorative flowers, the minister doing the service, an organist, and the bells being rung.

I think it is well and truly worth it to be married in the same church where my parents and maternal grandparents were married, and where one of my aunts, my sister and I were christened!

Ours was $900 including music. It was a historic church though.

Fees were not mentioned in any conversation with our priest. Although Orthodox weddings do not usually include musicians, there was a 20-person choir. My parents made a  donation but there was no set cost – I think the expectation in our culture is that families donate what they can afford, the Church does not ask for money to perform a religious ceremony.

Wow!  We are in Cincinnati, Ohio, and a donation of $150 was requested to cover the priest’s time and the electric for the church.  We hired our own musicians, for a total of about $300.  We are very active in our parish, so that may be why it was so low.  I was allowed to decorate with pew bows that I made, and alter flowers.  We left the fresh flowers on the alter for all of the congregation to enjoy for a week.
