I recently priced Piedmont Community Church for our ceremony and they want $2950! That includes a wedding coordinator, minister, organist and the church, plus a stipend for the lady who books the ceremony. That seems outrageously high to me. I’ve priced historic churches in Sausalito and Point Reyes and they weren’t nearly as expensive. Please tell me what you paid to get married in a church.

I’m in the midwest, so our price ranges may likely be different, but I suggest looking around some more. Our first inquiry wanted $850, the second place we checked out was $1100, and we booked the place we LOVED for only about $450, down to $250 or so if we become members. These costs included the things you’d listed above. I would definitely keep checking around, and even if costs are higher in CA, I think nearly 3k is outrageously high.

I’m also in the midwest and the prices here are WAY cheaper. For my church (a HUGE Cathedral) is $1,200 if you’re not active in the church. But that does not include the organist. If you are an active member (my family is) then our weekly contributions cover the cost. They also ask that you donate at least $100 the day of. I believe we will have to pay $75(ish) for the organist and $100 if we want the choir, which we are going to do.

Yikes. . . I’m a member of our church, so we only have to donate a fee to the priest. The fee for the organist and soloist. I’m guessing that we’ll probably spend about $300.

I think it ranges tremendously, so you have to go with what’s in your budget and what your gut tells you. Between LA and NYC, I’ve seen churches in the $3,000-$4,000 range for ceremony only, but we were also able to find a very nice church where we can do both ceremony and reception for $2,000. Do take into consideration what’s included, though–I have not seen places including organist and ministers fees, which can definitely add up.

As parishioners, our church costs were $925. This included the services of the coordinator, liturgist, cantor, organist and priest. In order to get married in our church we also had to attend two session with a pre-marital counselor ($200) and go to Engaged Encounter weekend ($375).
