Most Unitarian Universalist churches will allow anyone to marry in their church.

From my experience, Baptist, Church of Christ, and non-denominational churches tend to be the most strict and curious regarding living together.

We got married by a Lutheran pastor. I’m pretty sure he knew we were living together (he knows my parents), but it never came up in conversation.

You could always look into getting married in a wedding chapel. It still looks like a church, but they are not going to care b/c you are paying them.

Can’t you go on their websites to see their requirements for marriage? Most of the churches in my area have their wedding requirements in a section on the website.

Look for a Nondenomination church.  We went to our local Catholic Church and they gave us a hard time.  We went to several nondenomination places and no one asked so we asked and they said that it was fine with them.

Could you just not tell them? I haven’t said anything to the church I’m getting married with. They haven’t asked, and I haven’t volunteered. 🙂

I’m a Lutheran and I don’t think it’s a ‘big deal’ with us. It may be mentioned, but I doubt that they’d refuse to marry you. Another poster mentioned UU, and they are very welcoming as well from what I understand.

Good luck on your search, and check multiple churches in the same denomination if that’s important to you. I’ve met some hardcore strict Lutheran pastors, and then we interviewed in one with a hawaiian shirt on who just got back from a 3 week vacation with his wife and 6 kids. The dude is awesome and polar opposite of some of the other churches we’d checked out.

I had a friend who got married at Blessed Sacrament Church in Margate City, and the couple was living together.  I’m not sure if they had to go through any hoops, but it might be worth checking (if your Catholic!).

@TheFutureMrsLamkin: Please don’t lie to a church about it. If they ask, be upfront. I just don’t think you should start off your ceremony with a lie you know? Be honest.

And what denominations if your Fiance against? If it matters so much to him why not have him pick the church?

im getting married at a catholic church in vineland, and had no problems – we were up front with the priest who will be performing the ceremony, and he had no problems with it – i think it all comes down to the priest/person performing the ceremony

i would recommend looking into non-denominational churches, if youre still interested in having a religious ceremony.  if not, you can always look into other, secular venues.
