So….. Has anyone gotten married in a civil ceremony before their “actual” wedding day. You know, for legal/insurance purposes? If so, what were the reasons? Did anybody find out?

Yes, we had a city hall wedding. We have not yet had our church wedding. And like most, we did it for insurance/legal reasons. We kept the ceremony very unweddingish. Just me and him and our kids. We dressed up but I did not wear a wedding dress. We just went out for a nice dinner alone afterwards. We are saving all of the wedding-y touches for our church wedding.
But we told everyone we did it that way. There was no “finding out.” We explained the reasons to our famiies and friends and they all understood.
We thought since we are already legally married some people might not be that interested in attending a “wedding,” but we were wrong. We are asked all the time about the wedding by people who want to be invited.
@Neva: Thanks for your reply! I am so glad to hear of your experience. We are considering doing the same thing… However, we don’t know if we will be telling anybody. I was even thinking about getting my name changed on my license before the wedding… Although we don’t live together, it might be nice to not have to worry about it after the big day.
