I was a huge fan (I sit in traffic by her window everyday).

Here’s my take: if you are a common size, you can make back some of your investment by reselling your dress. My gut is that she is not manufacturing enough inventory in order for there to be a strong secondary market. If you choose to pay between 2-6k for a dress from her, expect to own it unless you are a common size and can find another buyer.

Her silhouettes tend to be for the tall and hipless in my opinion. I also find that that many of her brides do not have their dresses altered correctly and tend to look “chestless” in most photos I see. Bias cut gowns are really for those with flawless figures. Most Pettibone brides in my opinion just look like wealthy women who spent a fortune on a beautiful gown.

My last 2 cents on this designer is that she seems heavily invested in pushing her lingerie line currently and that seems to be going nowhere.

Her gowns are gorgeous but I’d rather drop 5k into more champagne or a better band at the reception. My 2 cents. Sorry for the rant! πŸ™‚

i loooove Claire Pettibone. and I am tall and slim and I think I looked nice in her dresses. . .she was one of the 2 designers I fell in love with. Claire for just how awesome and fun and elegant her designs are, and Priscilla of Boston for how timeless and *bridal* they are. but my mom vetoed Claire Pettibone because she thought it looked like I was wearing lingerie πŸ™‚ so Priscilla it is!

I wore a Claire Pettibone (the Fontaine) and I LOVED it!!!

I bought the store sample (from Kleinfeld’s, during a sample sale) and it was $1200 (priced new on the CP website at $4500.) I’m short (5’2″) and not particularly slim, so I don’t know if I agree with sfchick’s assessment of whom it looks good on…

Here’s two photos of it:
