depends on how good your seamstress is, my dress got taken in about 5 sizes and looked amazing.  I wasn’t 100% adamant that it look like the EXACT same shape though, and we were able to customize it a lot which I loved.  so I say go for it, even if it doesn’t work out its way cheaper than a new dess, and you wouldn’t want to be identical to your cousin anway right?

well that’s really 5 sizes isn’t it? 2,4,6,8,10,12 since the sizes run on even numbers for wedding dresses. I still don’t know if it’s do-able, but that might make it easier than 10 actual sizes ( which would make the dress originally a 22)

Is SHE a 12 or is the dress a 12? Do you know what size you wear in wedding gowns?

My dress was 3 sizes too big, and I had it altered at David’s – it’s not as many sizes as yours, but my dress is PERFECT now and fits like a glove! You’d have no idea it was ever any bigger than it is, so you may be okay 🙂

I think it would be very hard to do with all the lace and sheerness.  I guess it could be done, but it might look totally different.

@chuket_tralala:  WOW. I didn’t realize those gowns ran that small! I’m a 12 street size and the 16 I have is way too big.

I don’t know if any of you other ladies on this board wore C.Pettibone dresses at your weddings, but I am looking for one of her dresses for my own wedding next year.

If you,or someone you know has one for sale please let me know! My favorite ones are:

Mystere, Orange Blossom, Chantilly, Sky between branches, aphrodite.

    Thanks!

I think it could work, but prepare to pay a LOT in alterations because you’ll need someone very reputable and experienced. And no rush jobs!

@chuket_tralala:  Have you actually tried on this line of dresses before or a dress to know your size? I only ask because I am a street size 5 and my dress size is a 6 for my Casablanca Couture dress. Different lines may run differently, but your size 2 may not be a 6 in dresses….

    Hi,
I talked to a friend of mine, who is a seamstress, and this is what she said:

“With lace you might lose some integrity, since thats quite a change in size. With that size difference you will be asking the seamstress to basically tear the dress apart and use the fabric to create new, smaller pattern pieces. A couple sizes bigger would allow you to maintain the look of the lace a little easier, but as it with all things every dress will be different.”

thats not technically ten sizes thats only 5…

with that dress it might be a stretch, but def check with a good seamstress.

FTR…that dress was the inspiration for my entire wedding, I’ve never tried it on but its GORGEOUS and if it were me I’d jump at the chance to wear that! lol
