i personally prefer the cleaner look of solitaires  but it really depends on what you like.

I generally prefer solitaires, but I also like the look of a larger stone on my fatty finger, so I’d probably go with whatever offered me more finger coverage.

I prefer halos. Not a fan of the solitares. Reminds me of grandmas. that’s not an insult to solitares, I just not my thing.

I agree with @TheGridMonster. Whatever looked bigger on my giant finger is what I would choose.  I love a classic solitaire that can be blinged up with different bands. But I do love a round in a cushion halo! Both are beautiful!

Daisylovex3:  I think you are right! It will be perfect. I am a 7.5 so I need a little more  to not get lost.

I’m a size 5.5 abd when I got measured, they told me 1ct should be the biggest stone I could pull of without looking gaudy. They suggested a .75 center. I went with their suggestions: my stone is not huge, but its not small. I get compliments.

so I think your future .77ct on a size 4 will look good.

Look in your closet. Which do you have more of: simple, classic lines or flowery, ruffly stuff? If your closet is full of clean and classic pieces (think blazers and cardigans, dark wash jeans, solid color tops and tees, etc.), a solitaire is your best bet. If it is populated with vintage-inspired pieces, flower prints, ruffle trims, and feminine details, you might be more of a halo girl.

I love halos on other people. just like I love vintage and feminine pieces on other people. But if I wear them, I feel so odd. It’s just not me. I’m a clean line girl all the way.

I prefer the solitaire, but I’m not usually a halo person.

I’m a size 5 and I think my .74ct center stone looks gorgeous; I wouldn’t say no to a 1ct in the future but for the next 4+ years I’m happy.

I may be biased because I have a solitaire myself lol. Actually my first e-ring was an oval halo. It was very pretty but the specs weren’t that great. My hubby upgraded my ring and we got this beautiful solitaire with the perfect specs. I realized after the upgrade that I liked the look of a solitaire rather than a halo. Its timeless and classic, and it goes with everything! I actually prefer the look of 1 single, big diamond rather than a center diamond with tiny diamonds around it. My finger size is very tiny (3.75) so solitaires look better on me…halos tend to “swallow” my finger.

It really should depend on YOU (not us!) :). My ring hs a double halo (large one, a smaller one that sits inside of it and practically under the stone and then the stone sitting highest, it kind of tiers down). That being said, it was exactly what i was looking for, I love that is looks classic, but isn’t what I would consider plain. It gave my ring a little extra and I still catch myself staring at it all the time. If you love the simplicity, go with the solitaire! If you like a little more bling, go with the halo! Both are great!

Daisylovex3:  Normally I like solitiares and with a size 4 finger (lucky!) a .77 will look GREAT. I have a .65 on a size 5 and I think it’s decent coverage so yours will look that much better!

That being said I am really loving that halo when I dont normally …

My ring (.65 on a size 5) for your reference:

lovekiss:  Excellent point and I fit with your assessment 100% (solitaire)! Just never thought about it that way. Maybe I just like halos on other people … !
