I always wash my hair. I don’t see how having dirty hair would help getting it dyed…

My stylist told me I don’t need to wash my hair before an appointment so I stick with that

Dirty.  The oils in your hair help protect it from the chemicals.

Hmm, weird. I got a single process color (all over color) plus highlights this past weekend and my stylist told me to come with clean hair (or they would wash it when I got there). She said the opposite of PP, that the color won’t stick as well when hair is dirty. Def call and ask if you haven’t gone yet.

I’ve always heard that the oils in your hair help protect in the bleaching process… But Alpine1994 is probably right. Always best to ask your stylist 😁

When I get highlights done, it’s usually at the end of the work day, so I have my product already in. She doesn’t wash until after coloring. So, I’d vote dirty.

However, there was one time when I had put some product in and noticed that my color didn’t stay as well as a result. It could be the color product they use, though. This was an old stylist of mine.

Conditioner can prevent dye molecules from being absorbed properly and natural oils do help when your hair is being lightened. Plus it’s gonna get washed after anyway so you’re cutting down on the amount of heat and chemical damage your hair will be going through.

2 or 3 day dirty works for me. Helps protect my scalp. I put in a little coconut oil right beforehand too, mostly mid shaft to ends. Ask your stylist what they prefer and what works best with their products.

I even coat my hair from root to tip with coconut oil before putting any dye in it. It doesnt block any dye from your hair if youre wondering, and it leaves your hair so soft and healthy! It also helps even out the dye

Dirty hair (the oil) helps protect your hair from the chemicals and it also holds the color better.
