I called ahead for a quote to a cleaner for my rather simple, single layer silk sheath gown, and I was told it’d be $150-250 but they’d have to see it. It’s a sample but it’s relatively clean.
I woke up an hour early this morning, get there, inform them that I had called, and actually met the person I’d spoken to over the phone. They tag the spots on my dress that need a little work, tell me the stains are no problem, tell me it’s in pretty good condition. The price? $450. "Nothing we can do."
I got pretty miffed because I had bothered to call ahead of time for a quote, and I don’t generally waste my time for fun, and told them as much. I asked for my dress back. Suddenly after punching some more stuff into the computer it was $250. The price couldn’t go any lower, despite being quoted something in the range of $150-250.
I walked. I was kind of hoping that by asking to leave with my dress the second time, it’d be under $200, but it wasn’t. On to place number two. I still can’t believe how ridiculous that all was, and I’m still pissed that they wasted my time. Remember to ask for a discount, if you say the word wedding, you’re probably being charged twice as much as you need to be.
