I think my mother in law has a Shark steam vac similar to this. We’ll be looking at something similar if we end up with a house with hardwood floors.

I’d also invest in a swiffer type duster, but with a reuseable microfiber cloth on the bottom instead.

-EDIT-  I should mention we have hardwood in our apartment right now, and although we have a swiffer, usually we just vacuum with our Dyson and it works really well.

I have the Shark Steamer and it is amazing!! I vaccum my floors and then use that, and I LOVE it! I searched for something that didn’t leave marks or push the dirt around, and it was Shark for the win! 🙂

Murphy soap and water is the best things I have found for the floors. I have tried multiple steam mops without success. The steam mops leave streaks and don’t really clean the floors, its only steam so it’s not like you are actually cleaning them (no soap). If you don’t have animals and are looking for something in between washes, the swiffers seem to work the best.

Personally, I’m not comfortable using a steam mop to clean my hardwoods.  I know plenty of people do it with good results but my philosophy is to keep the floor as dry as possible.  I use a microfiber mop and a non-toxic cleaner called Bona.  You spritz some on the floor and mop over it with the microfiber mop.  The mop head is washable and reusable.  I do this probably once every two weeks and in between I sweep up with a dry Swiffer or a cordless stick vacuum I have which is made by Electrolux.

I’ll be watching this thread as we just closed on our home and the whole first floor is hardwoods.  I’ve already seen how quickly they seem to get dirty!
