I put a squirt of windex, drop of dawn, and hot water from the tap into a shot glass. I drop my ring in for about 30 minutes and then scrub with an electric toothbrush. Soooo sparkly!

Oy. I clean my ring almost daily, otherwise it is very obviously dingy. As soon as there is even the slightest fingerprint smudge, it’s very visible. My stone is a vintage style cushion that has really large facets, so the grime can’t hide behind the more splintery sparkles of a Round Brilliant, princess, or modern cushion, etc. I clean it with this biodegradable green-colored cleaner I got from a market and a soft toothbrush.

I would be careful about using an ammonia-based cleaner for gold, not very good for it from what I’ve been told.

@MrsMaine: I didn’t know there was such thing as ammonia-free Windex! I’ll have to check that out!

Wow, maybe I have OCD, but I give it a quick scrub every morning with liquid handsoap and an old toothbrush. I can’t stand any buildup on my ring. About once every two weeks I soak it in hot vinegar. Smells horrible but gets all the gunk out of my tiny pave stones. Oh, and vinegar gets hard water stains off all the little crevices. I wish I had a steam cleaner. When I worked at a coffee shop, I would put some soap on it, and steam it using the milk steamer. I never saw it so sparkly!

bebefly– It depends on the gemstone. Be careful with opals and pearls because they’re porous. I scrub my gemstones with gentle soap like Dawn and a very soft toothbrush. and then dry the surface with a cloth that I got with my glasses. I wouldn’t use a harsh cleaner, just in case of damanging them. Ha ha I had a citrine ring that I was terrified to clean because I thought it would get scratched. I didn’t clean it for like 2 years, then my friend was like, “ew, you need to clean that ring.” So I scrubbed it with hot water and soap and it came out sooooo sparkly.

Ok so I have had my ring since the end of November and haven’t cleaned it yet. It still sparkles and I didn’t think it was that big of a deal.  Yikes!! I will try some of the methods on this thread. Thanks!!!

I took your guys advice and soaked it in a cup of tepid water with a few drops of Dawn (for quite awhile, because it was beeeeyond gross) & gave it a gentle scrub.

Thanks Bees! I don’t even think it sparkled this much even brand new 🙂 I’m falling for my ring all over again!

I clean my ring every other day or so with a baby toothbrush and some hand soap (because it’s right on my bathroom counter).  When I’m in ring cleaning mood, I drop my ring in a teacup of warm water and dawn.  I scrub my ring then steam it with my jewel jet.  I love having my ring super sparkly!

@Bostonsmom: Oh man, I hadn’t gotten mine cleaned since I had to take it back to the jeweller (center stone popped out) back in JULY. To say it was grimy was an understatement. But now that I know I’m definitely cleaning it waaaaay more often.

I’ve wiped mine lightly with windex a few times, that makes it look great. I like to wash my hands and then use the blow dryer things they have in some public restrooms. I know, it’s totally weird! But it seems to make it shinier if I just wash my hands with soap, pay special attention to my ring, and then blow dry them. Anyone else think so, too?
