I like clear blue OPKs because they give you a smiley face during LH surge and it takes a lot of the interpretation woes out of the picture, but they’re a little pricey, so I use cheap ones until it looks like its getting close then start using clear blues 🙂

The basic clear blue digital is good. That one is either a blank circle for negative or a smile for positive. I don’t like the advanced one which supposedly tells you 4 fertile days. With this one I got 8 “high fertility” days before my peak. That made no sense to me. Once you get the hang of the cheap opks on amazon those are more than sufficient.

I used them and I really liked them but they are expensive, I dont think they are worth the price. The cheap ones work just as well.

Do you have a sense of when you ovulate? I would usually ovulate around day 14-19 so I usually started testing around day 8 just to be safe.

Optometrylove :  Hi there! I would recommend this as we fell pregnant on our second cycle when we gave CB OPK a go. FMU showed a blank face but when I tested it in the evening, close to 10pm, there was no mistaking the smiley face on the display window. So on the days you are nearing your fertile period, I do recommend testing twice a day, 10 hours apart or so, in case you miss your surge!

Optometrylove :  I think a lot of stuff I’ve read recommends starting to test around cycle day 10, then as you get used to it and know when you ovulate you can adjust it so that you don’t start until a little later.

Optometrylove :  you could buy the cheap ones and use the clear blue when you think you are getting close to a positive. Sometimes I used a cheap one and double checked with the CB to be sure.

I would also advise testing at mid day and/or the evening. Fmu is good for pregnancy tests but not so much for opks.

I like the Clear Blue — but this last round with the Advanced Digital I ended up getting like 6 “high” fertility days before I hit peak, so I think to save money next month (if I’m not pregnant already) I’m going to wait until closer to my normal ovulation date to start them.

One thing you may want to try coupled with the OPKs is BBT charting. I really didn’t want to do it at first – it seemed like a hassle, and I didn’t actually get my IUD out until this month so we weren’t TTC yet anyway – but knowing exactly what day I’ve ovulated every month (and confirming that I actually DID ovulate) has been so helpful.
