I actually had problems with this exact thing.  I have dark blonde/light brown hair, with a LOT of blonde highlights.  (Not the most “natural” highlights, but it’s how I like it.)

My colorist told me to buy extensions that matched my blonde highlights, and that she would low-light them to match my natural color.  Well….she tried, and the Remy extension pretty much fell apart.  (It was on the tester strip)….but seeing as how they’re not returnable, I’m out $100 for super blonde extensions.

The good news, at least for me, after some extensive searching, I did find ones that somehow match my hair, with the highlights, so the colorist won’t have to do anything.

What color hair/highlights do you have?

I have a full set of clip-in extensions and a few sets of brightly colored ones – some are real hair and some are high-temp resistant faux hair.  I found that they tend to get frizzy after some heat manipulation and don’t cooperate with hair spray and intensive styling techniques all that well. They can be hard to hide if you are doing anything other than a straight down hairdo. You might want to get a hair piece specifically designed for up-dos. Then again, a good stylist should be able to add volume to your hair without actually adding hair. I’ve never tried coloring them. Good luck!

I wouldn’t rely to heavily on being able to dye the extensions, real or not.  Just try to find an option that is as close to your color as possible and go from there.

Headkandy has a ton of highlighted shades-you should be able to find something from them.
