So I had my hair trial last month, and despite my efforts to grow out my hair for a big low bun, it’s still not quite thick enough. My hair stylist showed me some pictures of buns she had done with clip in extensions and I LOVED the look.
So, she sent me with instructions to go to Sally’s and find real hair clip in extensions that match (or closely match) my hair color – easy enough, right? I went to Sally’s this past weekend and for the life of me, I can’t find a hair extension color that even remotely resembles my natural hair color. I didn’t think it would be this hard since I have natural dark brown hair, but most of them are golden or red tinted and mine is not at all.
So, any advice? Are there any other real hair clip extensions that I can find elsewhere? Any recommended brands? Any other tips/advice/anyone else use clip-in extensions?

Really? Did you look at the Sally’s brand? I’ve had several sets of theirs in the past and also have dark brown hair (or I did at the time). Their actual dark brown shade is much more neutral or cool toned, but the lighter brown shades do lean more gold.
ETA: I had to double check since it’s been so long since I bought any, but theirs is called EuroNext.
If it’s just for your wedding, there are tons of vendors online who sell Remy clip in extensions. I probably wouldn’t spend much on a set of extensions that’s a more expensive brand like HK or Luxy unless I planned to use them again.

I love extensions and there are some different colors out there. Do you live in an area with an independent beauty supply store. Is you live in Dallas, I can’t recommend Jenny Beauty Supply enough they have 30 times more of a section than Sally’s, but they are called the Walmart if beauty supply store for a reason.
Here’s a pic of the wig area and I’m stand halfway down the aisle. The clip in extension area is another row and they have 4 rows with human hair and another 4 rows of synthetic.
It’s incredibly easy to make clip in from cheaper hair wefts. You just see the clips to the weft. So that’s another option if you can’t get a good color match
Minihouse8888 is really popular with lots of reviews if you need an online option. Plus they often have coupons. And I’d say the hair at both places is comparable and will be fine for your wedding.
ATM I’m thinking I’ll do a halo, but eBay had a sale today and I bought a new set of tape in, so i may do tape ins anyway.
Here’s my halo, I couldn’t find my bigger curling iron , so I customers it width the smaller one, my wedding day curls will be looser.

Another halo fan here. I’ve become obsessed since Synthroid made my hair fall out. The great thing about the halo is that it will not damage your hair the way clip ins do and it takes a few seconds to put on.
We just had a thread about extensions, I’ll bump it.

yes! I tried them! They had like 4 brown shades but they were either way too dark, like almost black, or highlighted/golden tinted.
oh gosh, that would overwhelm me! I made my own clip in’s several years ago, but I have so much going on and would so much rather just find already made ones! I thought about looking online but now considering how hard of a time I’ve had finding the right color, I feel like it would be hard to match a color online! That looks great! Such a good match for you.
I’ve never heard of halos! Thanks!

Just bumped the other extension thread for you.
Hidden Crown brand of halos has extremely informative videos—157 of of them, in fact. They’re all on YouTube, absolutely anything you could ever want to know about halos, Hidden Crown has made a video about it.

no need to feel overwhelmed at a store with that much selection; the staff would be more than happy to help you find the exact shade of your hair and length you’d like. Plus for a small fee they can make the clip ins for you. Win win.

I can’t speak for extensions, but I have really thin, fine hair and wanted a low bun and my hairdresser used one of those hair donut things. She just cut it so it wasn’t in a donate shape (as that wasn’t the type of bun I was looking for) and pinned my hair around it and it looked beautiful and way thicker than it will ever be!
