I’m going to piggy back on this thread.  I’m due in August and have been thinking of CD.  I’ve been looking online and am considering sewing my own.

I use the flat cloth ones which I know isn’t what you want, (although I have used both and prefer flat) I use ‘real nappies’ covers which are great.

I would say to have about 4-6 covers as unless they’ve pooped or been in a wet one for an especially long time, they will stay ‘fresh’ for most of a day.

They do have prefold diapers too but those are under accessories for some reason

I’ve been researching CDs for a while, and a lot of people really recommend the prefolds from Green Mountain Diapers.  I will be registering for those based on those opinions.  If it’s really flats you want to use, I haven’t looked into those as much, so I wouldn’t know!

@ASH.:  I’ve only used their covers, not nappies but I know the covers I’ve had have been great. I don’t know if you’ve looked into it but below is a video of the most convenient fold we use. It looks really slow but it’s just because I’m in (bad) demonstration mode, I can fold it in about ten seconds so it’s not a lot of work Wink

I don’t actually have any experience, but I’ve been doing lots of research since I’m planning to CD when my baby arrives in June! I’ve heard good things about the Bummi prefolds. For covers, it depends if you want sized or one-size. I’m planning to go with one-size to hopefully save some money plus it’s more convenient (less to store, less to buy!). I’ve heard good things about both the Blueberry one-size (a bit expensive, but high-quality and very cute) and Econobum one-size (as long as you’re ok with plain white, they don’t have cute ones. Very cost-effective though). For sized covers, everyone I’ve talked to recommends Bummis. I’ve pretty much decided on covers with snaps rather than velcro, as they seem to last better (I’m hoping to get more than one kid through a set of diapers) and don’t stick together in the wash.

I use a diaper service and my prefolds are provide through them so I don’t have any personal recommendations in that area.  I know Green Mountain are very popular and Grovia just came out with a prefold.  If you are planning to use flats you can buy inexpensive flour sack towels and use those.  My favorite covers are Grovia and flips.

For night time I use 2 prefolds (1 of them is trifolded inside the other) with a wool cover.  My guy is kind of a super soaker 16 month old so I use wool longies on top of all that.
