I love clothes from Express, Banana Republic and the Gap.  I’m the same height as you and used to be the same weight, but I’ve gained a bit recently and those clothes still look good on me.

I like The Gap and JC Pennys as well. I’m also really looking for suggestions. I’m a little overweight, but have a relatively slim waist.

I second Banana Republic and Gap. I also really like Maurices, and surprisingly Target tends to fit me well (in knits, anyway).

Look for pants with a curvy fit or relaxed thigh- they’re cut with a little more room in the hips, but still nip in at the waist. I don’t know if they still have them, but my FAVORITE pants were Dockers Metro Trouser Pant in Denim. The perfect dress jean.

I’m 36D, 30 waist and 40 hips. I feel your pain, curvy lady!

@tinylittlebird: I’m something like 28″ waist, 41″ hips, and 5’3″.

Also, don’t mess with sheath dresses or pencil skirts unless you feel comfortable and confident in your hips- and if you REALLY want that sheath dress, consider sizing up and having the top altered down to fit. If it’s too tight in the hips, it won’t be very flattering.

@kaylee26: I’m only 5′ 1″… haha!

Also, I’m super jealous of your 28 waist! I would gladly keep the hips if I could get that waist… at least my tops would fit better!

@tinylittlebird: My waist was 26 before I gained this weight this winter. Get this.. I had a 23 inch waist through most of high school.

I really like Ann Taylor Loft!  I have a lot of clothes form there (and almost all of my dress pants).

I’ve also had good luck ordering a few things from Bravissimo.com – their clothes are specifically designed to have more fabric in the right places to accomadate boobs and hips for us women with curves.
