Yeah clothing size is so warped these days. I honestly have no clue what ” size” I am. A week ago at a Christmas party my girlfriend and I were talking about my dress, how I ordered it online ad wasn’t sure if it would fit. She asked what size it was and I told her a size 6, which in my mind is small, and knowing full well I am about a 10 in uk sizing, which I consider more of a true size. Her jaw dropped, said, ” you are a size 6? You do not look that big!”. Hahaha. Guess some people view size 6 big?! Thanks vanity sizing. Instead of it making people feel good, it just makes people think everyone should be a size 4 or below, because everyone from Kirstie Alley to Kim Kardashian is a size 4 or below.

This totally explains the mystery that has been looming in my head for quite some time now, thank you.

I have two absolutely favorite dresses, one is from Anthro and is a size 4, the other is from a local thrift store and I don’t recognize the brand, but is a size 10!

The mystery of how both dresses in similar cuts could fit me perfectly and be so far off in sizes is baffeling to me. until now

Yeah, I go by measurements now (sometimes helps, not always). Before I shop at a new store, I’ll compare my current measurements (I take them once a month) to what their website size charts say. Sometimes it’s way off, which is equally frustrating as just thinking you’re a 20 and trying that size on to find you can’t even fit a leg in, lol (or swimming in it).

I usually only buy clothes from the GAP, outlet or regular store. When I was younger, I was a size 2 in pants and a small in shirts. Now I have to buy a size xs shirts and size 1 or 0 in pants/skirts. I do believe that places make smaller sizes bigger because it makes people feel good to fit in a smaller size. Crazy!

I loved this article!

I really hate that I can wear anything from a 4-10 or a small to large.  It is so frustrating!

Hahaha, size 6 is big?  Sheesh, if that were true I’d hardly fit through the door Wink

I remember wearing a size 3 in Express jeans before there was a size 0….and now I certainly am in double digits!  Oh well, life goes on Smile

I run into this a lot when looking at sewing patterns from pre 1970 or so. In there because of my bust I’m somewhere between a 14 and a 22! In modern jeans I wear 4/6. I’d be interested in trying the mybestfit on king of prussia next year, I have a general idea for most stores but it would be interested to have a comprehensive list. I measure regularly for sewing (I hate doing wasted muslin) but because I’m a low-hip hourglass and a full bust clothes are wacky to begin with, with vanity sizing it just gets worse.
