So, it’s 5 months before the wedding and I was thinking I should start some sort of routine to help my skin look good. What should I do? What should I buy?
I’m not the type of person to go out and get a facial, and anything that is suggested I buy is going to need to be available in a pharmacy.
Thanks for help!

I’ve started a routine of face wash, toner, moisturizer in the evenings and just toner followed by moisturiser in the morning. Occasionally I use the honey and oat mask from the body shop to get my skin glowing again. But overall I’d say, don’t deviate too much from your usual routine, you don’t want your skin to become irretable because of a product overload.
I thought about doing facials but that is just going to add up too much, I figured a little bit of extra care every day will go a long way as well.

@Mulan05: what do you use on your skin right now? what is your skin type?

I am a licensed esthetician and a makeup artist. I can help recommend some products to you.
What is your skin type?
What are you skin concerns?

It really depends on what kind of skin you have. Typically, most skincare stuff has bad stuff in it that’s irritating, comedogenic (pore clogging), etc., so if your skin is sensitive or reacts to certain ingredients, you have to be careful what you use. You should be washing your face 2x a day (morning and night) with a good cleanser (preferably non-foaming), then remove it in a circular motion with a wet washcloth. You can exfoliate 2-3 times a week with a scrub that has spherical beads in it–no ground up apricot pits or salt or sugar. That stuff will tear your skin open (on a micro level) and let bacteria get in there. You probably don’t need a toner–I find that toner is mostly useless and just dries out your skin pretty badly, but witchhazel (the pure stuff, not the kind with rubbing alcohol in it) is okay if you need it. Make sure you put on a good moisturizer while your skin is still damp from washing to seal in the moisture that’s in there.

@Mulan05: you are going to get a lot of suggestions of what other people do to their skin. Just because it works for ‘us’ doesn’t mean it’ll work for you. If you don’t have a routine right now, and your skin is fine (meaning no acne, not dry or oily) then why start a rountine? I know my Fiance does absolutely nothing to his skin and I am so jealous. His skin is great. Sometimes it can look a little dull but what if he would moisturize, he’d be set! I would suggest you do is first try a moisturizer that has an chemical exfoliant in it. It’s more gentle than using a scrub or cloth. Alpha hydrox have many great reviews on makeupalley. Use it sparingly just incase you react to it. This really brightens up the skin, making it look ‘refreshed’.

So, right now – I pretty much do nothing. I wash my face in the shower in the morning… and thats about it. And usually that I just use my body wash. Yes, I know: bad.
My skin is combination – oily/dry and I have one spot where I keep getting acne. I thought maybe I could do something about it 5 months out. I figure that’s enough time that if something does irritate my skin, I can stop/change it out. As far as I know, I’m not allergic to anything.
I hate to admit this, but I’ve always known I should do a bit more to get nice clear skin, but I’ve just never had the time or been concerned enough to be bothered. Now, I want to look good, so now I’m making the time to do something. My fiance always comments that I just seem to not care about makeup/beauty products.
First, based on your recommendations, I guess I need a good cleanser and a good moisturizer? Then go from there?
