Hi Bees!
We are having a destination wedding with a cocktail / appetizer reception. Here is our menu:
Passed:
Ginger-Sesame Ahi Poke served in a Cucumber Cup
Chicken Satay with Red Curry-Peanut Sauce
Stationary:
Coconut Shrimp with a Honey-Wasabi Dip
Deep-Fried Brie Wonton with a Fresh Pineapple Marmalade Dip
Grape Tomato, Fresh Basil & Mozzarella on a Garlic Crostini Topped with Reduced Balsamic Vinaigrette
Mini Crab Cakes with Lemon-Caper Aioli
Watermelon Cubes with Feta & Mint
Dessert: Cupcakes and Coffee
We have about 20 people attending, and are trying to decide if we need another appetizer or maybe a salad option. We don’t have assigned seating or anything and are planning on people to graze throughout the night. Thoughts?

Do you know if any of your guests have allergies? Your menu has a lot of shellfish/nuts. Personally I would be very limited to what I could have on your menu. But thankfully for me I have no problem eating my weight in cupcakes.

There’s no tree nuts as I am actually tree nut allergic, and no one has a peanut allergy so that is ok. My Future Mother-In-Law is allergic to shellfish but she looked over the menu and said she is good with it (she can sometimes eat shrimp I think but not crab).

also I’m not sure why the formatting is so goofy. If it is unclear, we have 2 passed apps and 5 stationary, plus dessert.

I would personally have a hard time eating off your menu, but I do not eat seafood at all, nor does my SO. But, if your guests like it, I think it would be okay!

If I’m counting correctly that’s 6 savory bites + a piece of watermelon + a cupcake. Can you add a station or 2 with meat and pasta, for example? Just for consideration…there are only so many pieces of cocunut shrimp and crab cake, etc a person can eat before they get tired of eating it and that point will likely hit before people feel full with only 6 savory bites.

I think it depends on how many pieces of each you are planning to order, what time your ceremony/reception is at, and how long you expect your guests to stay. Especially for a destination wedding, I would serve more food.

I think it sounds delicious, but you should have a LOT of it. It will take a while to fill up on appetizers like that. Maybe add a cheese/bread station? Or a carving station?

You need a good bit more food I think, for a destination wedding. Regardless of the time of day, if people are traveling to your wedding, I think you need to serve them a full meal.

Your menu sounds similar to mine! I think you have a nice variety, but since you are having just apps, I would have more food. Perhaps a cheese/bread tray, mini sandwiches like sliders, mini tacos or quesadillas…

As long as this is what people are expecting, it’s probably fine as long as you have a LOT of each appetizer. Would be good to have a cheese/bread/fruit addition though.

Good point. Many people have food allergies.
I think the variety is fine as long as you know that everyone can have nuts and shellfish.
Just make sure you have enough of each app that everyone can have three pieces of each.
