I have not been to one before but I have seen it done because the ceremony is in the same place as the reception, so guests were at their tables for the ceremony and stayed and dinner and toasts happened almost immediately after. The only confusion was in regards to cocktail hour foods before the ceremony- guests were confused about if they could eat or not.

I went to a wedding that did this and it was awesome. That may have had something to do with the fact that they had a huge minimum price for their caterer and it was a small, dry wedding so the food was spectacular. And it was passed food so there was no confusion about if you were supposed to be eating. The only big downside was that the bride didn’t attend the cocktail hour, which I would have been WAY bummed about, but she said she didn’t mind.

Sounds awesome! I think heavy hor d’voures dinners are great!

I haven’t done it yet but we are having the cocktail hour before the ceremony in case some of our guests get caught in traffic on the way to the shore and to give us better space/ lighting on the beach.

Everyone that knows about it thinks it is a really good idea. Just make sure you have signs or include in programs that the cocktail hour is before hand so there is minimal confusion
