We are having our wedding and reception at the same area (a local Baptist church) and I was wondering about cocktail hour.
They will not allow, nor will most of my family consume, alcoholic drinks and so this is out for the time between the ceremony and reception. So, I am working on coming up with something to do so that our guests will stick around. I didn’t want to put the food out early, but I wasn’t sure if what I have planned sounds sufficient or if anyone has any other ideas/concerns.
We will have the following “stations” around the perimeter of the room that the reception will be held in:
Popcorn bar-my fiancé loves popcorn and this is relatively cheap and easy to have. It will consist of pre-popped corn and then shakers to put on butter flavoring, cinnamon, salt, caramel etc.
Candy bar-this is debatable, we are on a limited budget (as in next to nothing) and I am not sure if this will be feasible. However, I wanted something for those who didn’t eat popcorn. Anyone have any cheaper ideas?
Advice station- people can write words of advice that they have for us
Photo Booth- Various props that I have bought at the dollar store and my cousin is taking pictures for me that will be posted online
Gift station/honeymoon fund- I seen somewhere and have been to weddings where they take up money for the couple and I thought it would be less cheesy at the gift/card table. (I really am not sure about this one, but everyone tells me it is a good idea to have)
On the tables will be the I Spy Game where people are asked to take pictures of various things that they find (they will have a list) and questions for them to fill out like what should we name our kids? What games should we stock our shelves with? What is an excellent date night idea? What vacations should we take? etc. (if anyone has ideas for questions I could use these as well)
So, my question is will this be enough to fill up the time for us to thank everyone and take pictures? Or, do I need to come up with more things for our guests to do? I thought about having a slideshow of our pictures going as well.
Any and all help will be much appreciated!
