My location has 4-5, small-ish rooms for cocktail hour and I’m unsure about what to do for music. Does anyone else have the same issue? Are you putting speakers or musicians in just one room, in each room with the same music, or different music for different rooms? I’m concerned that the sound will not carry well from just one room but that if we try to put different music in more than one room, at the rooms furthest from each other, for example, that the sound will clash. Thoughs? Thanks!

Our venue has a sound system, so we are going to have the same music in each room. You might want to check with your venue to see what other brides and grooms have done.

I second norintake22’s suggestion of asking the venue – failing that I don’t see a problem with just having music in one room if you want. I recently went to a wedding where they had music in one room and no music in another – which was great for larger groups who didn’t want to yell at each other to have a conversation.

our venue is an old mansion so the cocktail hour is in a few rooms (library, sitting room, parlor) as well. to be honest i hadn’t thought of cocktail hour music carrying from room to room until i read this post, but i think it might actually be nice to have the largest of the rooms where the music is playing and then the smaller rooms could be quieter. i can envision some of our older guests enjoying having a quieter space to talk. i’m going to ask our venue what other weddings have done though, and you should probably do the same.

Thanks for the suggestions! The venue does not have a sound system but the music will carry through most rooms thus I’ve been advised by them not to bother with additional music.
