We are having a DJ do the music for both our ceremony and reception. I’m providing the playlist for the ceremony and then the list of “must play,” “don’t play,” and special songs (first dance, etc.) for the reception.
My question is…what about the cocktail hour and dinner music? Should I let my DJ have free reign…give him certain artists or styles…? What have others done?

My Fiance and I have a contemporary blue grass station that we love on Pandora. We listen to it while making dinner or playing a game of cribbage at home, but it’s a lot of songs and artists we that we don’t really know. We feel like it sets the perfect vibe for a dinner party. So while we are at home or work and listening to that particular station, we write down the title and artist of the songs we like. We plan on giving this list to our DJ to play during our dinner.
I would suggest creating a pandora station you like, that you think sets the atmosphere you want and writing down a handful of those songs for your DJ, then he could work from there.
