I haven’t put any thought into the Rehearsal Dinner until now because I didn’t care if we had one or not until like three days ago, now I’m trying to make plans 🙂 FH’s dad/stepmom are totally down to host (read: pay for) an Rehearsal Dinner, but I’m the only one who plans anything ever so I’m doing the details. One of my friends is married to the Groomsmen at an upscale steakhouse in DT Seattle, and he has an awesome private banquet/tasting room that we can use with no room fee, plus he cut the f&b minimum in half for us and said he can help with our budget. Awesome!
About half of the people at the Rehearsal Dinner will be getting on a ferry and traveling 90 minutes to the town the wedding will be in that night, so this was my thought for the Rehearsal Dinner – at 6pm, have a reception with hot and cold passed hors d’oeuvres (like 10pp) and wine, at 7:30 (or when everyone gets there) do toasts and gifts, and then wrap up with cake.
That gives those of us who are traveling enough time to get across the water in enough time, and if people want to stay and party DT or eat dinner they can do that too. I want to have this event so the family coming from out of town can feel involved, the Wedding Party can mingle, and all of our parents (FH and my dads are both on their third wives, and both of our moms have been divorced twice and have boyfriends) can say hi to each other and get that out of the way before the wedding.
Thoughts? We’d do the actual ceremony rehearsal the next morning at the venue.
