Has anyone tried cocount oil on their hair? Did you see any results? Also, my husband had bought coconut oil to use in cooking a couple months ago and he never used it. Would I be able to use it on my hair, or is there a difference between edible vs “beauty product” coconut oil?

Same thing and its awesome – just put in like a hair mask and shampoo out. Itss also nice as a body scrub with sugar.

Ohh I love the stuff, it has so many practical uses. I use it as a prewash for my hair, as the PP said just saturate your hair with it and then shampoo it out. It can “go bad” but it has a releativly long shelf life..just open it and give it a sniff. You will know if it is to old for use!
Pinterest has any great “100 uses for coconut oil” pins, they are worth checking out!

I mix coconut oil with jojoba oil (I have massive, curly hair) and olive oil. I put it on as a mask, as others mentioned. I also do an avocado + olive oil mask, put it up in a shower cap and blow dry on low speed, high heat for about a minute. Then I wash and condition. Sometimes on the same day. It takes all day, but the end result is fantastic.

Coconut oil is amazing. There is no real difference, one type smells more like coconut but they are both the same. I use mine for lotion, makeup remover, cooking and I have heard great things about hair. I was told to let it sit on your hair for 15-20 minutes and then shampoo. No need to condition but you may need to shampoo twice.

Awesome, thanks everyone for the suggestions! Might try that hair mask tonight 🙂
@ellisrobertson: That avocado olive oil mask sounds awesome as well, thank you!

It’s really good – my mum used to put it in my hair every night, and I’d wash it out every morning (as a kid). Pretty much every woman in India has it in their hair, and their hair is super long, black, thick and glossy even when they are old! I don’t use it anymore because I hate the feeling of oil in my hair but it is good for your hair.

They are the same and it’s amazing! I actually plan on doing a coconut oil treatment after work since my scalp is getting itchy and locks are not looking shiny.
I usually put a TON on so my scalp/hair is saturated, then I put on a super sexy shower cap and watch girly shows (I only do this when SO isn’t home because I also use moisturizing gloves and do a face mask…it’s my beauty time!) I leave it on for at least 30 min but I’ve left it on for over an hour before and it just moisturizes more. I wash twice and don’t condition because I don’t need to!
I also use that instead of lotion!
