I bleached my hair for 10 years and have finally managed to grow it out. Best advice my hairdresser ever gave me was to stop buying my shampoo and conditioner from the supermarket. I highly reccommend Kerastase Volumactive and Nioxin System 3 ranges (both for fine, chemically treated hair) to get it back in good shape.

Its due to over proteining your hair.  A lack of proetin or too much protein have the same effect – hair loss.  Mix the ORGANIC and COLDPRESSED coconut oil with organic avocado oil, massgae on to scalp and leave for 3 minutes then go through the mids to ends with the mix and leave it for no more than 3 minutes.  Ensure to condition and only do this once a week!

It is common for oil products to cause hair loss. Oil dilutes the ‘corks’ of sebum that hold already dead hair in your scalp. Once the corks are diluted (think about oil make-up removers that unclog the pores full of old sebum – it is the same mechanism) , hair is falling out. It is natural. No need to be afraid 🙂

Happy to have found this thread. I tried using coconut oil in my hair last night after my hairdresser recommended it and now I’m pulling out chunks of hair.

Janelle123:  I massage coconut oil into my scalp once a week and i noticed that I hardly have any hair fall out in the shower anymore. So for me, it is working wonders- I just did it again last night and showered it out this morning, i had maybe 4 strands total come out….it used to be 20-30 eeeeeevery shower!

Janelle123:  try garlic shampoo…. no it does not smell like garlic lol.  It promotes new hair growth and decreasses shedding.  Coconut oil should be a great conditioner though

SweetCaroline89:  I did a hot oil massage with coconut oil and I was literally pulling chunks out. I’m trying it again now that it’s been a few months, but I’ve made it a blend with rosemary, cedar wood and peppermint For hair growth. I used a dropper and probably put 2 squeezes in. hoping I don’t pull out handfuls of hair like last time!

Janelle123:  Your pores are probably blocked/clogged. I use coconut oil as well as unsweetened coconut milk and products that contain it and I’ve never had that problem. I also don’t put oils/things that don’t wash out all the way on my scalp for that very reason. On the scalp I do use coconut conditioners or the milk and rub it in, but I make sure its rinsed out well. I have waist length hair that is naturally very curly/dry and damage prone and this regimen has improved my hair 10000%. I also make sure that I use a clarifying shampoo once a week or every other week to make sure that I have no buildup. I personally like Jason’s or Aubrey because they are all natural with no harsh chemicals.

Hi, I also tried this coconut thing and so much hair was falling out while I was showering.

Just wondering about your suggestion, would it be ok to add rosemary oil with it? Also, should it be applied to dry hair or can I apply it after a day or 2 of not washing hair (scalp would already be a bit oily)?

Thanks

The thing with coconut oil is it high in protein, which is why its good for damanged hair.. however if your hair already has high protein in it, it will make your hair dryer and possibly fall out. The best thing you can do is research products depending on what it is you’re looking for.

Found this thread on my search of ‘is using coconut oil making my hair fall out?’.. So, I’ve been using coconut oil in my hair every other night after a shower. I’ve always had super thick hair that is sooooo frizzy!!! The frizz drives me insane. I jumped on the coconut band wagon. I LOVE HOW IT TAMES MY FRIZZ INTO BEAUTIFUL WAVY CURLS!! I’ve been doing this for about 6 months. Clumps of hair do fall out in the shower, but this has always been normal to me & since my hair has always been so thick, it’s never been in any way noticeable. However, over the past couple weeks, my hair has become so thin! And it’s just getting thinner and thinner. I noticed it more when I flat ironed it and put it in a pony, I couldn’t believe how thin it was. And since the only thing I’ve changed in my hair care routine, is the coconut oil, I feel that’s all I blame. Of course, the obvious thing to do, would be stop using the coconut oil – but I love how it gives my hair that natural beach wavy look!! I’m glad to have come upon this site to see that it’s not just me!
