Ok so first of all I am a HUGE coffee drinker anyone who knows me knows that! My family are also big coffee drinkers…. as I was browsing through favors they all seemed so generic and not very practical and EXPENSIVE….so I came up with the idea of a coffe mug with a a pack of either Starbucks VIA or the Nescafe kind. And a little note saying sometthing cute that I still havnt figured out we are also having a candy bar as favors….this is the mug

I don’t think its tacky but I do think its something I am likely to leave behind. I have a whole cabinet full of mugs. They seem to just collect over time.. souvenirs, free gifts with company logos, etc. That said I think that’s true of many traditional wedding favors – so I’m not sure I have any brilliant alternatives for you. To be honest, I didn’t even care for the favors very much that we gave out at our wedding! Favors are a nice thought, but a tough one, I think!

it’s not tacky. but you do have to judge your guests to know whether they would use it or not (which you seem to have, at least with your family!) personally, i would keep your favor 🙂 maybe the coffee cup could be the “container” for the candy from the candy bar?

Yeah, not everyone drinks coffee, but mugs! Mugs I love! I like the idea of putting the candy bar with it. At offbeatbrides.com, Ariel had pre-loved mugs as favors. Depending on how many guests you have, you could get thrifted mugs in all the same color(s) for the same or cheaper, and then people could pick them ones they like.
Also, you might want to go with a color you would use in your own home… that way, any leftovers have a purpose. Or, donate them to a camp (camp mugs disappear like nobody’s business!) or halfway house or something.

I was thinking of doing the same thing with tea in some and instant coffee in others. I’m technically having a “destination” wedding since the only person that lives even close is 40 min away so 99.9% of guests are traveling pretty far. I was trying to think about what people buy as souvenirs when they travel and I thought of coffee mugs.

I bought those mugs for my college apartment because they were cheap. I HATE THEM! Since there is no real handle, it is impossible to hold them if the drink is still hot. And if you try to hold it by that little handle, the mug is of balance and starts to tip.
That being said, I love the idea of coffee mugs as favors, just not that one!!

I LOVE THIS IDEA! We have just a few mugs but could always use more. I would say NO if it was like, your face on the mug or something, LOL, but I like the generic ones. Maybe an instant coffee thing but also a hot cocoa? Land o Lakes makes individually packed ones you can get at the grocery store.

I think it’s a great idea! I’m biased because I’ve got my heart set on coffee mug favors for my wedding. FH and I are both coffee fiends and I think it would be perfect. Ideally they would be personalized but so far I’m having trouble finding a good price. Inside I think instead of coffee I might put a rock candy sticks since they can be used with either coffee or tea.
