That is an 8 oz cup, like those white small styrofoam cups. That is what my doctor told me I could have and no more.

a small Tim Horton’s coffee has 100mg of caffeine. and by small, i mean the cups that used to be called medium,  i looked it up online here:

http://www.timhortons.com/ca/pdf/CaffeinceContentEN.pdf

i was very vigilant to look up caffeine content in everything i had with caffeine during my pregnancy.  Overall, i found i was able to have one cup of coffee and then something else like a green tea or soda.  often i have less caffeine than this.  but i also eat chocolate freely, since the caffeine content is so small.

There are a ton of websites that will tell you the amounts of caffeine in different place’s drinks. Also, at Starbucks, some of the baristas have been able to tell me the caffeine in certain drinks. I can’t speak for Tim Horton’s, but at Starbucks, an Americano has less caffeine than the drip coffee, so I try to get that.

In general, you are probably safe with two cups (8oz, so not mugs… but cups) of coffee a day from your kitchen or a restaurant. Coffee shop coffee may or may not be more caffeinated depending on the coffee.

@lilbluebird:  My nespresso has bene a lifesaver, but now I am out of pods and I seriously cannot afford more.

@mrsSonthebeach:  Yes, those pods definitely add up but generally speaking, it’s been cheaper than my daily Starbucks fix! Luckily, we live near a Nespresso boutique so at least I save on shipping.

@lilbluebird:  For sure. And the new Starbucks system that is like Nespresso costs almost twice as much per pod. I know that Sur la Table sells the pods, so next time I am home, I might try to convince my mom to buy me a few sleeves. I’ve been subsisting off of drip coffee at home since Starbucks is definitely out of the budget too. I just have a really underpaid position right now, which seemed like no big deal when I accepted it… but then I got pregnant unexpectedly and all my play money (which isn’t much) is going to maternity clothing on clearance and all the damn extra food I’m eating… and stuff like the flu shot and T-Dap that my insurance doesn’t cover.

Anyway, OP, don’t worry. You can still enjoy your coffee!

@mrsSonthebeach:  i looked up caffeine content in starbucks too. i think a regualar tall coffee was something like 180mg!  but my fave, more expensive drink from SB is a mocha and a tall only has 90mg….so this has been my pregnancy splurge the past 8  months  🙂

@mrsSonthebeach:  I saw the new SB one in action this weekend at Williams Sonoma and honestly, I wasn’t impressed. Granted, I didn’t try the coffee but the machine seemed kind of clunky. The sales associates were having a heckuva time just trying to get the thing going. The reviews on the WS website aren’t very good either. $1/pod – fail.

@dynamic_duo:  Yeah, the espresso drinks are much more moderate than the coffee… which certainly surprised me. I always think of espresso as being so strong.

This is one of the first things I researched when I found out I was pregnant. Here is what I found:

Small McDonald’s coffee has 109 grams of caffeine

McDonald’s large Ice tea – 160 grams!

1 can of diet coke – 46 grams

I’ve decided to stick to just one diet coke a day and try to switch to decafe for tea and coffee.

I have a craving now for Tim Horton’s. We don’t have one near me but every time I go visit my brother in OH we go there and I love it.  Mmmmmm….Tim Horton’s……. (to be read in your best Homer Simpson voice)

I have a mug of coffee pretty much every morning and then avoid all other caffeine. I am just cranky without my cup of coffee, although some days I wish it was two or three!

From everything I’ve read, 1 a day is fine.

@Sunshine09:  Most likely, but remember that decaf coffee still has some caffeine and how much changes a lot from coffee to coffee. I would be shocked, though, if there was more than 200 mg in a large decaf.
